Our Story: Why The Plucky Duck Hatched in Spokane

Hi All! I am Cristina, the owner of the Plucky Duck and Spokane's "Curator of Fun!" I am long overdue a introduction and explaining why I decided to open up my shop so here you go...
September 2024 was a season of new beginnings for me. With my new husband and kids by my side, I moved to Spokane, Washington, ready to start a new chapter. As a former librarian, I had spent years fostering a love of learning and community. While I cherished that experience (and still miss the work dearly), I knew it was time to turn the page and write a new story; one that was my very own.
While exploring and getting to know our new community and saw an opportunity. In a city as vibrant as Spokane, I noticed a need for more family-friendly, alcohol-free activities; experiential event spaces where people of all ages and abilities could do something fun, hands-on, and creative that wouldn't break the bank!
And so, the idea for "The Plucky Duck" began to take flight!
I realized my passions for crafting and education, together with all my years experience as a librarian, could be woven into something new and beneficial to my community. This led to the vision for our soap making workshops; a place where we could all gather, learn something new, and create something unique and useful!
But there was a deeper purpose to The Plucky Duck!
It’s also my commitment to the environment; a mission to help our community reduce single-use plastic and eliminate unnecessary waste. Offering consumers an eco-conscious refillery (a refillery is where you can bring your own container and buy bulk household essentials) and sustainable goods are my way of putting that commitment into action.
This journey into entrepreneurship and sustainable retail is just beginning, and I know there will be so much to learn and grow from. I look forward to sharing all of these adventures with you and with all of Spokane.
